I love it when a model with honest looks has a breakthrough in a season. Joan Smalls doesn't look like an alien, baby doll, depraved Eastern European, or Sarah Plain and Tall. She's a total babe, but high fashion babe, and sometimes that's all you need.

I've had to look at this image a lot lately because of work. Every women's fashion magazine has their own specific way of educating their readers on how to achieve the head to toe denim look (How to wear denim at the office! How to wear denim dresses! How to mix light and dark denim!), apparently a big trend for Spring 2010. I could care less about what Norwegian model, Iselin Steiro, is wearing. Her messy mop of blonde hair and angular bone structure are a captivating combination. It was her bread and butter for Spring 2010. Here, here, here, here, and there. In the immortal words of Bobby Caldwell, "Got a thing for you and I can't let go..."

3 things I learned about when it rains in NYC:
1. Why didn't I get those $28 rain boots at the Marc Jacobs store the other week? Shame on me.
2. Not owning an umbrella is not smart, but don't be stupid enough (no matter how wet, and I was pretty damn wet) to buy one of those p.o.s.'s that are sold on street corners.
3. It can rain everyday if that means that the clouds will part again and I'll have another model encounter. While on an errand for work, I passed newcomer Arlenis Sosa on Grand in between Lafayette and Crosby. It was too cold for my tongue to fall outside of my mouth, but my eyes were transfixed on her natural beauty for our brief moment. I mean, this is who we're talking about:

Ladies and gentlemen, please meet Lakshmi Menon. You may not be entirely familiar with her, but she opened the Givenchy couture show this summer, booked the fall ready-to-wear campaign shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and blew up the runway this past week at her first New York Fashion Week popping up at Peter Som, Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, Richard Chai, Diane Von Furstenberg, Derek Lam, Zac Posen, and several others. Things to know about Menon: She's from Bangalore, India, she's 27 (which makes her recent success story much more interesting in comparison to the 15-year-olds currently ruling the runways), and she's not a dummy about the politics of fashion. Oh, and she's incredibly sexy.
